Japanese manga artist victim of Ferrari fraud

Kanagawa Prefectural Police on Thursday arrested a male suspect, 56, for fraudulently procuring an imported luxury car Ferrari from a Tokyo resident. According to investigators, the victim is manga artist Akira Miyashita, creator of the "Sakigake! Otokojuku" manga series.

According to the police statement, the suspect acquired the Ferrari, worth about 33 million yen, around March 2015 under the false pretense of selling the car for the victim. "I had no intention of deceiving [him]," the suspect said in response to the investigation.

Investigators have also revealed that Miyashita was initially a customer of the suspect when he was working as a used car salesman. Miyashita filed charges after discovering the funds from the would-be sale were not deposited into his account.
