Japanese hotel offers stays for 71p - but they will livestream you sleeping

A Japanese hotel is offering up stays for just ¥100 (approx 71p) a night - but in return, guests' visits will be livestreamed on YouTube.

The Asahi Ryokan in Fukuoka has set up a 24-hour livestream in one of its hotel rooms, so that viewers can watch the the entirety of the guests' visits.

Yep, that includes when they are sleeping at night.

In fact, only the bathroom area is out of the camera's range; the toilet and bath are in a completely separate room.

Guests are of course told before they book that their visit is livestreamed - and during their stay they are allowed to turn the lights off if they want some semblance of privacy.

The hotel is run by Tetsuya Inoue, 27, whose grandmother owns the property.

When the hotel room is vacant, Tetsuya posts a livestream of himself working in the office, with signs in Japanese and English to explain to viewers where he has gone when he leaves the room.

According to CNN , there have been four hotel guests who opted for the room since the new venture launched earlier this year.

In fact, Tetsuya thinks that there could be a market especially with the younger generations.

He told CNN: "Young people nowadays don't care much about the privacy. Some of them say it's OK to be [watched] for just one day."

At the moment the 71p room is losing money, but Tetsuya hopes that if the channel garners enough subscribers and views he can start using advertising to turn it into a profitable venture.

There are some rules for guests - 'lewd acts' are banned, and they're warned not to show any personal details (for example on their debit cards or passports).
