The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry started recruitment activities Thursday for two employees who would take charge of a project to promote an autonomous aerial vehicle.

Applicants need to maintain their main jobs, meaning the project would be their second or side job. The ministry aims to use the perspective of private-sector workers for this project, in which unmanned flying cars would be used for social issues such as transportation in depopulated areas or disaster relief.

The ministry will recruit a community manager to make a policy plan for using aerial vehicles to solve problems in communities, and a public relations director to publicize the plan. The ministry intends to hire personnel who have work experience in city planning or promotion.

The employees will work about one day a week and be paid 15,030 yen per day. Applications will be received until April 3 through a staffing agency. An official of the ministry said: "There must be many people who feel able to apply [for the project] as a second or side job. The experience of joining this national project might be special for them."
