While the United States and European countries have decided to expel Russian diplomats over a nerve agent attack on a former Russian spy in Britain, the Japanese government on Tuesday has taken a position of not following suit for the time being.
"We have to parse out the facts [of the attack] first," said Foreign Minister Taro Kono at a press conference after a Cabinet meeting. "We will keep an eye on how the investigation develops."
In response to the attack, itself, Kono emphasized, "Using chemical weapons should never be allowed, and those responsible should be punished."
