Japanese fans praised for cleaning stadium themselves after opening Rugby World Cup victory

Proud Japanese rugby fans have led by example after taking time out from celebrating their World Cup to clean the Tokyo stadium.

The diligent fans were filmed filling bags with plastic and cardboard minutes after Japan beat Russia by 30 points to 10 in the tournament's opening clash.

Wing Kotaro Matsushima scored a hat-trick to send the home nation wild - but that was no excuse to leave a mess.

Japanese fans have a reputation for tidiness.

They were praised for cleaning stadiums at the 2018 football World Cup in Russia.

And the Japanese football team themselves were praised after leaving their dressing room spotless despite losing the Asian Cup final earlier this year.

Picking up rubbish and taking pride in your possessions is instilled in Japanese children from an early age.
