The government began evacuating staff from the Japanese Embassy in Kabul on Monday, after the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan.
About a dozen embassy staff members remain in the country.
The government will evacuate the staff via airplane -- including U.S. government aircraft and commercial flights -- and temporarily close the embassy.
The government also plans to assist the evacuation of Japanese nationals who work for international organizations in Afghanistan.
"While monitoring the latest developments in the country, we are responding in collaboration with the United States and other nations," Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga told reporters at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday.
Japan has provided Afghanistan with about 700 billion yen in humanitarian aid and technological cooperation over the past 20 years.
The government will make a decision about the further provision of aid after ascertaining the Taliban's next moves.
