Leading general contractor Kajima Corp. is aiming to introduce robots to help with construction, as the industry is facing an aging workforce and labor shortage.

The company unveiled a prototype robot to the press on Tuesday. The robot, which has been in development since 2018, will be able to carry out such tasks as leveling the floor after the concrete is poured. Kajima plans to begin utilizing the robot in 2024 and hopes to improve efficiency and reduce the burden on its workers.

"We aim to improve productivity by 30%," an executive at the company said. "We hope it will lead to reforming the way we do our job and improve salaries."
