The Art Tower Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture began Saturday allowing the reservation of practice space to students currently playing their instruments at home amid the spread of the new coronavirus.

Student musicians play instruments, such as the piano and violin, making full use of the hall's excellent acoustics. The hall made available to students is called the Concert Hall ATM with a capacity of 620, that is usually used by a variety of musicians including the Mito Chamber Orchestra led by general director Seiji Ozawa.

With all concerts scheduled at the hall being suspended until August due to the coronavirus outbreak, the hall came up with the idea to offer its unused space to students.

The service is only available on weekends in June to student musicians ranging from fourth grade to university students who live or attend school in Mito.
