Nippon Professional Baseball's two leagues on Monday announced their postseason schedules, saying the Central League (CL) has decided to eliminate its Climax Series (CS), while the Pacific League (PL) plans to hold an abbreviated version of its playoffs.
The move comes after a delay of about three months to the start of the regular season because of the spread of a new coronavirus.
The CL made the decision to cancel the Climax Series to get in 120 games for each team during the regular season.
It will be the first cancellation of the CLCS since the league introduced the playoff format in 2007.
Meanwhile, the Pacific circuit will reduce the PLCS to four games featuring the pennant-winning squad and the runner-up. The playoffs are scheduled to start Nov. 14, and the PL champion will open with a one-win advantage in what will effectively be a best-of-four series.
