Japanese Actor Tadanobu Asano Joins Thai Culinary Thriller Cast

Blumhouse's New Horror Film Imaginary Unveils Menacing Trailer and Cast

The talented Japanese character actor Tadanobu Asano, known for his diverse roles, has recently joined the cast of Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang's upcoming culinary thriller, Morte Cucina. This collaboration marks a reunion between Asano and Ratanaruang, who previously worked together on the acclaimed film Last Life in the Universe in 2003.

Morte Cucina is set in contemporary Bangkok and follows the story of Sao, a young female chef seeking revenge against a man who had abused her in the past. Using her culinary skills, Sao embarks on a plan that leads to unexpected outcomes.

The central role of Sao will be portrayed by newcomer Thanatphon Boonsang, while Thai actors Nopachai Chaiyanam and Kris Srepoomseth will play key male roles in the film. Nopachai has previously collaborated with Pen-ek on the crime thriller Headshot.

The screenplay for Morte Cucina is co-written by Pen-ek and Kongdej Jaturanrasamee, known for their work on acclaimed films such as Hunger and Faces of Anne. The film will be lensed by veteran cinematographer Christopher Doyle, renowned for his collaborations with director Wong Kar-wai.

Produced by Soros Sukhum of 185 Films and Asia-based producer Conor Zorn, with co-producers Manuel Chiche and Alexandra Hoesdorff, Morte Cucina is set to begin production in April. The project aims for a premiere at a major European film festival next year.

International sales for the film, excluding North America, will be handled by Goodfellas, while CAA will represent the film in North America. With a talented cast and crew on board, Morte Cucina promises to be a captivating addition to the world of cinema.
