2019 Rugby World Cup quarter-final
Venue: Ajinomoto Stadium
Date: Sunday, 20 October, 2019
Kick-off: 11:15am BST

Host nation Japan have a tall order ahead if they are to continue their World Cup fairytale as they meet South Africa for a place in the last four in Tokyo on Sunday.

The Cherry Blossoms will be looking to call on the spirit of 2015 as they look for an upset that would surpass even their miraculous victory over the Springboks in Brighton four years ago.

A bonus-point win over Scotland on the final day of the pool stage saw Japan finish top of Group A, avoiding a clash with New Zealand in the process.

South Africa’s only defeat in the tournament so far came against the All Blacks, but they have won three on the bounce since then, and are currently second favourites to win the entire competition.

Team news and line-ups

South Africa will have Cheslin Kolbe and Herschel Jantjies fit to feature from the start in a full-strength line-up.

Japan have no fresh injury concerns following the Scotland match.

Score prediction: Japan 21-37 South Africa

What a thrill it would be if the hosts could keep this incredible story rolling. The Springboks should prove one step too far, though.
