Top intelligence officials of Japan, the United States and South Korea will hold an in-person meeting within the week in Tokyo, according to Japanese government sources.
It is likely that the officials will discuss such issues as collaboration over policies toward North Korea and their policies toward China.
Hiroaki Takizawa, director of cabinet intelligence, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines and South Korean National Intelligence Service Director Park Jie-won will attend.
The meeting comes after U.S. President Joe Biden's administration last month completed its review of policies toward North Korea and shows that Washington places importance on this trilateral framework in dealing with Pyongyang.
After high-ranking security officials from the three nations met in the United States in April, the foreign ministers of the three countries held talks on the sidelines of the Group of Seven meeting in Britain on May 5 in which they agreed to demand that North Korea completely abandon nuclear weapons.
