The Japanese government will reveal the name of the next era on April 1 this year, following a decision at a Cabinet meeting on that day, according to government sources.
Although the change in the era name will be after the Crown Prince's enthronement on May 1, the government judged that a preparation period of a month is needed to revise computer systems in both the public and private sectors.
The date for the new era will be officially announced soon.
Sources said the ordinance on the adoption of a new era name will be signed by the current Emperor and promulgated. The ordinance will go into force on May 1, when the Crown Prince will be enthroned. The era name will be changed at midnight on April 30.
