Japan’s Immigration Services Agency (ISA) will run a nationwide campaign in June to promote the proper employment of foreign nationals as part of the government’s efforts to build what it called an “orderly and inclusive society.”
According to the Immigration Services Agency of Japan, the campaign will run from June 1 to June 30, 2026, and will target employers, business associations, government agencies and local authorities.
The initiative has been named the “Month for Promoting Appropriate Employment of Foreigners Towards the Realization of an Orderly and Inclusive Society.”
The campaign comes as Japan continues to tighten oversight of foreign employment and immigration compliance amid rising concerns over illegal work and overstaying cases.
Awareness drives for employers
The ISA said it will conduct awareness campaigns for companies that currently employ or plan to hire foreign nationals. Authorities will distribute informational leaflets and provide guidance on rules related to the employment of foreign workers.
The agency will also ask employer organisations, chambers of commerce, local governments and administrative agencies to support awareness activities during the campaign period.
Regional immigration bureaus across Japan will dispatch officials to seminars, training sessions and information events organised by companies and industry groups to explain employment rules and consultation systems related to foreign workers.
The ISA also plans community-level outreach activities, including public awareness drives near train stations and shopping districts in cooperation with local authorities.
According to the agency, the campaign is linked to Japan’s broader “Comprehensive Measures for Acceptance of Foreigners and Orderly Coexistence,” approved at a ministerial meeting on January 23, 2026.
Japan has recently increased scrutiny of immigration compliance, illegal employment and overstaying as the country balances labour shortages with stricter immigration enforcement measures.
