Japan theme parks see few visitors after state of emergency lifted

Amusement parks and theme parks across the nation reopened Saturday, marking the first weekend since a state of emergency was lifted in 39 prefectures.

At each facility, efforts were made to prevent any "second wave" of the epidemic, such as by checking visitors' temperatures for signs of fever.

At the Tochinoki Family Land amusement park in Utsunomiya, there were few visitors on the day, partly because of the forecast for rainy weather.

In addition to temperature checks, visitors were asked to sign in with their name, address and contact numbers at the entrance. "It's a relief to be able to reopen, but we also have a sense of tension," the 54-year-old manager of the park said.
