PYEONGCHANG -- The Japanese ski jumping team finished sixth in the men's team large hill ski jumping on Monday, failing to earn a second consecutive medal in the event after a bronze at the 2014 Sochi Games.

The team was comprised 30-year-old Taku Takeuchi; Daiki Ito, 32; Noriaki Kasai, 45; and Ryoyu Kobayashi, 21.

"I did the best I could," Kasai said. "I had been worried and felt lost this season, but I've reached this point. This was my eighth [Olympics]. I made an incredible record."

Referring to the Beijing Winter Olympics, to be held in four years, Kasai said: "I'll absolutely compete in those Games. Medalists in the latest Games are making me feel frustrated and determined to medal at the next Games."
