Japan is in close contact with a "small number" of Japanese nationals who are still in Afghanistan, and is seeking to secure their safty after Taliban militants took over Kabul, the government's top spokesman said on Wednesday.
No injuries have been reported among the Japanese there, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato told reporters.
