Japan's vaccination guidelines advise against using bike couriers

The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry has advised local governments to avoid using motorbike or bicycle couriers to transport Pfizer Inc.'s COVID-19 vaccine because vibrations in transit may deteriorate the quality.

The ministry has revised its vaccination guidelines because of the possible impact on the quality of the vaccine.

Inoculations are likely to be administered in groups in such locations as gymnasiums equipped with low-temperature freezers set at about minus 75 C, or individually at clinics. In the case of individual vaccinations, the vaccines will be divided into small portions and transported in a refrigerated state.

The government's guidelines state that after the vaccine is removed from a freezer, it should be immediately placed in a cooler bag and handled with care. They also state that it should not be transported by motorbike or bicycle in light of the possible impact of vibrations.
