Economic Revitalization Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said Sunday he expected the ongoing state of emergency to be lifted in certain parts of the nation.
Speaking at a press conference, Nishimura said, "I anticipate that the declaration of the state of emergency will be lifted in most of the prefectures [among 34 that are not on special alert status]."
The government will make a final decision after analyzing the infection situation and other matters, at a meeting of an expert panel expected to be held on Thursday.
