Nasu Animal Kingdom on Thursday announced the births of three sand cats, also known as "desert angels." All of them are female.
The facility, a member of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, previously welcomed in April the birth of a female sand cat named Amira. She is the older sister of the new babies, having the same mother and father.
The kittens were born early on July 9. From Aug. 12, the facility will allow the public to view one of them that has been artificially nursed. As of Aug. 4, she is 19 centimeters long and weighs about 312 grams.
"[Sand cats] are characterized by a sharp face with a straight nose. I want you to see her walk with great force though still staggering," a breeder said.
The other two kittens are being nurtured by their mother. They will be shown to the public after they leave the nest. Their names will be picked from among the candidates gathered when Amira was born.
