In a telephone conversation with Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi strongly encouraged Israel to continue implementing its efforts to ease the tension in the Gaza Strip with a view to ensuring a lasting a ceasefire, according to the Foreign Ministry.
During the 30-minute talk, Motegi welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas. He also stated his determination to address the urgent need for assistance in the Gaza Strip, which was hit by Israeli airstrikes, and expressed his continued commitment to confidence-building measures among the concerned parties through Japan's own initiatives.
Ashkenazi said he was ready to continue exchanging views with the international community, including Japan, with the aim of easing the tension in the region.
