Credit Saison Co., a leading credit card issuing company in Japan, is slated to begin a new service as early as this year that will enable its users to make purchases via smartphone, without the issuance of credit cards.
Information normally saved into the plastic cards will instead be managed through payment apps, with payments being completed via mobile technology such as smartphones. Credit Saison says that this new service will be the first of its kind in Japan.
Applications for the new service are to be made available digitally, taking as little as five minutes to complete. Through this service, risks including the loss or theft of credit cards will be reduced.
Because the service won't be an option at stores that don't have an access terminal for smartphone payments equipped, a card will be issued to those who want to have one. However, as a security measure, no card number will be displayed on the card.
The issuance fee for physical cards is 1,000 yen per card, including postage fees. Credit Saison aims to reduce costs through the introduction of this new service.
