Japan's 1st test for new residence status held in Manila

MANILA -- The first test for specified skilled workers, a new residence status that the Japanese government set up to accept more workers from overseas, was held at universities in the Manila metropolitan area on Saturday.

According to the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry and other sources, the test given was a skills test for the nursing care industry. The 60-question test was taken on a computer. The questions were divided into 45 in English on basic knowledge and 15 on Japanese terminology used at nursing homes.

The test was also provided on Sunday and 125 people were set to take the test during the two-day period. The test will also be held in the following months.
