A teenage COVID-19 patient died in Osaka on Tuesday, Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura announced Wednesday.
It was the first teenage COVID-19 death confirmed in Japan, according to the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry.
The boy, who was in his late teens, was rushed to a hospital in Osaka City on Sept. 1 where he tested positive for the novel coronavirus. His condition was severe when he was admitted to the hospital.
The patient, who reportedly had underlying health conditions, was not vaccinated against the disease.
