
GANGNEUNG -- Japan defeated the United States 8-2 in men's curling round-robin action on Sunday morning at the Gangneung Curling Center in Gangneung.
The Japanese men notched their second straight victory to improve to three wins and two losses in the round-robin stage as of Sunday morning.
Japan, which is eighth in the world rankings, jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first end and stole a point apiece in the second and third ends, despite having the disadvantage of throwing first.
The lead shrunk to two following the fifth end, but widened again after Japan scored another two points in the sixth end. Japan stole another pair of points in the seventh end, forcing the United States to surrender the match.
The United States, ranked fourth in the world, had two wins and three losses in the round-robin stage as of Sunday morning.
