Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Japan will contribute 200 million dollars (about 22 billion yen) by the end of the year toward humanitarian assistance for refugees and displaced people in Afghanistan at an online summit of Group of 20 countries on Tuesday.
"It is important [for the Taliban] to sever ties with terrorist groups," Kishida said at the meeting held to exchange opinions on such issues as humanitarian assistance and anti-terrorism measures in Afghanistan.
Kishida called on the new Taliban administration to appoint a wide range of people, including senior officials of the former government and women, to important posts.
