Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said during a Monday press conference that the government had protested against Beijing through diplomatic channels over China's launch of a website that claims sovereignty over the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture.
The website set up by the National Marine Data and Information Service of China, a Chinese government subsidiary agency, claims that Japan stole the islands from China following the Meiji Restoration.
Kato said, "The claim based on China's peculiar stance is completely unacceptable."
