Japan legend urges Manchester United to make him a transfer offer

Japanese football legend Keisuke Honda has urged Manchester United to offer him a contract as he searches for a new club.

The 33-year-old attacking midfielder is without a club since he left Australian side Melbourne Victory in the summer transfer window.

Honda is still searching for a new club following the expiration of his contract and has taken to social media to try and launch an unlikely move to United.

Taking to Twitter over the weekend, Honda urged United to offer him a contract and insisted that money would not be an issue in any deal.

"Give me an offer," he said. "I don’t need money but I need to play with great team and great team mate."

United are still in the market to sign a new central attacking option having failed to bolster their midfield in the summer, as well as selling Romelu Lukaku.

The former AC Milan midfielder scored eight goals in 24 games in all competitions for Melbourne Victory last season and has a reputation for his set-piece taking prowess.

Honda played in Italy, The Netherlands and Russia earlier in his career but has never experienced life in English football.

The Japanese play-maker retired from international duty following his nation's exit from the World Cup in Russia last year, finishing the competition as the highest scoring Asian player in tournament history.
