
Many families headed to the beach in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, on the weekend, as the rainy season came to an end in the Kanto, Koshin and Tokai regions.
To help people observe social distancing and thereby combat the spread of the novel coronavirus, Numazu city authorities roped off 39 spaces on Mihama beach. Only a limited number of people could visit the beach, and all of the equipment usually in the water for people to play with was put away to help prevent crowding.
"We hope that by doing everything we can to prevent the spread of the virus, people will be able to enjoy the beach," the secretary general of the local tourism organization said.
