With workplace vaccinations against COVID-19 set to get fully underway next Monday, various companies are hurrying to prepare.
At Itochu Corp.'s Tokyo headquarters, 1,200 doses of vaccine arrived on Tuesday and were taken to its in-house clinic. The trading firm is planning to inoculate 7,500 employees and subcontracted workers by August.
Toyota Motor Corp. announced Tuesday that it will start inoculations next Monday for about 80,000 people, including about 50,000 of its employees in Japan and staff from client companies that would have difficulty administering vaccines themselves.
Toyota aims to finish the inoculations on Sept. 10. Employees' family members are not eligible for vaccination at the company.
SoftBank Group Corp. Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son on Tuesday visited a large-scale vaccination venue set up by his company in Tokyo. SoftBank Group plans to operate 15 vaccination venues across the country, including the Tokyo venue, by the end of July and vaccinate about 10,000 people per day.
It said it will also provide inoculations for about 100,000 local residents, in addition to its employees and their families.
Efforts are likewise being made to vaccinate staff at small and midsized companies. The Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai) said Tuesday the association will carry out group vaccinations from next Monday for employees of member companies with fewer than 1,000 employees, in principle. Employees' family members will also be able to get shots.
Keizai Doyukai was to use conference rooms in Tokyo handled by TKP Corp., a major provider of rented meeting rooms.
