
The Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that Shigeki Takizaki, director-general of the ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, held separate talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui and Wu Jianghao, director-general of the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Department of Asian Affairs. They confirmed that preparations will be made as scheduled for a state visit to Japan by Chinese President Xi Jinping in April, amid fears it might be affected by the spread of the new coronavirus.
Takizaki made a two-day visit to China from Tuesday, talking about how both countries can cooperate to prevent the further spread of the new coronavirus. Regarding China's repeated incursions into Japanese waters around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture and the situation in North Korea, views were also exchanged.
