Japan beats Russia in Rugby World Cup opener, fanning interest in official goods

Japan opened the Rugby World Cup on Friday evening with a 30-10 victory over Russia at Tokyo Stadium in Chofu, Tokyo.

On Saturday morning, the flagship official Rugby World Cup 2019 Megastore near the west exit of Shinjuku Station in Tokyo was thronged with rugby fans buying goods for the Japan national team.

The ad hoc shop is open until Nov. 20, selling replica jerseys and towels among other items of the World Cup participating teams. The store was crowded with people buying goods and trying on uniforms.

A 57-year-old company employee from Niigata said at the shop he was going to watch the match between France and Argentina on Saturday. "I watched the opening game at home. Kotaro Matsushima scoring three tries was amazing!" he said with excitement.
