The fiscal 2020 supplementary budget, which includes a 100,000 yen across-the-board subsidy to the public, was approved by a majority vote of both the ruling and opposition parties at a plenary session of the House of Councillors on Thursday.

The budget, previously approved by the House of Representatives, was thus enacted.

The supplementary budget will support the government's emergency economic measures to deal with the spread of the new coronavirus, totaling 25.69 trillion yen. The budget also includes costs related to special benefits of up to 2 million yen for small and midsize companies whose sales have been halved.
