Keeping the family entertained on a budget can be difficult at the best of times, never mind in January.
With the festivities over, and all of us watching our money a little more this year, we’ve looked into activities around the city that won’t cost a penny.

Children’s Craft Club
Held at the Mitchell Library, these bi-weekly craft activities are open to those between the age of 5 and 10.
From colouring in, drawing, and creating there’s plenty to do to keep the wee ones entertained without spending a penny. The next one kicks off on January 18 at 5.30pm.

Scottish Landscapes Tour
Held in the Hunterian at Kelvin Hall, the Scottish Landscapes Twilight Tour is held at 5.15pm on January 25 and offers an exclusive tour of Scottish landscapes art.
Looking at paintings and their relation to the growing popularity of Scottish Poets and writers such as Robert Burns and Walter Scott.

Riverside Museum
Home to a wide collection of transport and technology items that have been gathered over the centuries, the Riverside Museum looks at Glasgow’s industries such as shipbuilding, train manufacturing and engineering.
It’s open throughout the week from 10am until 5pm, aside from Fridays and Sundays when the museum is open 11am until 5pm.

Kelvin Hall Tours
A volunteer-led tour, you can learn more about Kelvin Hall and the history of the building as well as how it is used today.
The tour includes a behind the scenes look in the Glasgow Museums’ stores. Held on Saturdays and Wednesdays throughout the year, you can book your slot here.
Glasgow Mural Trail
Held on January 23, this free tour will take you round Glasgow’s breathtaking murals.
Organisers say you can see how the splashes of colour brighten up the city, as well as supporting local artists. You can book your spot here.
People’s Palace
Set in the historic Glasgow Green, the People’s Palace is home to a collection of objects, photographs and prints which show how Glaswegians lived and worked over the centuries.
It’s open throughout the week from 10am until 5pm, aside from Fridays and Sundays when the museum is open 11am until 5pm.

Freed Up Comedy Nights
These alcohol free comedy events are held across Glasgow and Scotland, with the next one scheduled for January 8.
Housed in the Time Event Space at 7.40pm, you can book your spot here.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum opened in 1901 and is a firm favourite with local people and visitors. It has stunning architecture, and a family friendly atmosphere.
