Sissoko, Lamela, Kane - Tottenham Hotspur team news ahead of Manchester City clash

Tottenham Hotspur return to the Etihad Stadium this afternoon as they take on Manchester City in the Premier League following their Champions League success on Wednesday.

Spurs set up a semi-final clash against Ajax in Europe's elite competition with their three away goals in the 4-3 defeat proving decisive on a night of high drama in Manchester.

As fantastic as it was that the team managed to seal their place in the final four of the competition, Mauricio Pochettino now has a bit of a headache in midfield with Moussa Sissoko substituted off in the first half.

The Frenchman took a knock following an innocuous challenge with Kevin De Bruyne and it now leaves Spurs with limited options in the middle of the park.

Spurs confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the 29-year-old's groin injury would be assessed ahead of the game to see if he is fit enough to play.

Erik Lamela, who missed out on the squad despite travelling to Manchester, will also be assessed after suffering with a hamstring problem.

However, Harry Winks will not feature in the league fixture as he still has a groin issue, while Serge Aurier will miss out again due to his hamstring injury.

There is some good news, however, with Eric Dier and Vincent Janssen both returning to training today ahead of the game.

Spurs have also confirmed that Harry Kane has commenced rehabilitation as he bids to make a speedy recovery.

Pochettino said: "Still we cannot say nothing. We’ll assess day by day, we’ll see. We’re not optimistic but you know Harry Kane and with Harry Kane all is possible. We’re not going to say he won’t play again or not, we will assess day by day."

Spurs and Manchester United fans will love the hilarious sign mocking Man City

Lucas Moura and Danny Rose were also substituted at the Etihad, but there's been no injury news reported on either player which is good news ahead of the game as Spurs look to hold on to third place in the table.
