But today his emotional mum Carole Butler told Hull Live the former Salford Red Devils player has no brain damage, news she says has "lifted" the family by his bedside.

Carole, from Hull, said: "It’s fantastic news.

"It’s phenomenal the way he is fighting and while it’s still a very concerning situation right now, we are all feeling so much more positive and this news about his brain is such a relief. We feel lifted by this news."

Turgut remains in a medically induced coma but his heart, liver and kidney are now functioning on their own.

And a pressure drone placed inside the athlete's skull to relieve the pressure on his brain has now been removed.

He'll be transferred from the private Nuestra Senora del Rosario Clinic facility to another hospital on the Balearic island in the next 24 hours. The British consulate helped speed up this move, it's understood.
