Jansin Turgut: Fundraiser launched for rugby star who fell from car park in Ibiza

Devastated friends and family of a rugby star who fell from a car park in Ibiza Airport have launched a fundraiser to help cover his medical bills.

in the incident and is in intensive care on the Balearic island.

The general public - including many rugby fans - have donated more than £2,000 on various fundraising sites since yesterday morning's fall.

The money will help Turgut, a former Salford Red Devils player and England academy captain, get the right care.

"The family would like their privacy respected at this tragic time but whilst he’s on the mend, this fund is going towards Jansins care whilst he is in critical condition abroad without these funds Jansin may not get the right care which could be devastating for a young man with his life ahead of him and his family," a statement on GoFundMe reads.

Hull FC captain and former team-mate Danny Houghton has pledged a significant amount.

Turgut's family, most of whom live in Hull, are at the athlete's bedside in Ibiza.

"Jansin tragically had a critical fall abroad which has resulted in hospitalisation and his family flew out as soon as possible to be by his side," the statement added.

Authorities on the island continue to investigate the fall.

Turgut was sacked by Salford Red Devils in early April.

Director of rugby operations Ian Blease later revealed he had been suspended for allegedly breaching club protocol.

A subsequent statement from the club, released earlier this month after an internal investigation, said: "Salford have terminated the contract of Jansin Turgut, following an internal investigation.

"The club would like to thank Jansin for his time at the Red Devils and will be making no further comment on the subject."

Turgut, born in Hull, represented England Academy against the Australian Schoolboys in 2014 and made his Hull FC debut on March 5 2015 in a Super League match against Leeds Rhinos at the KC Stadium.

He is of Turkish origin through his father and represented Turkey in the 2018 Emerging Nations World Championships, captaining a side that won three of their four games.
