The Giants are uncommonly interesting for a 2-11 team, even during a mundane Wednesday practice in a lost season.
Cornerback Janoris Jenkins wasn't on the field practicing with the team on Wednesday, but he made sure everyone knows he is alive and well with a barrage of tweets from his Twitter account. Jenkins was responding to fans on Twitter with colorful language while the Giants were warming up for practice, which spurned two questions: Where is Jenkins and how did he get hurt?
While Jenkins was tweeting out his statistics, claiming he hasn't given up a touchdown pass since Week 3, and calling a fan a "retard," the Giants quickly announced that Jenkins was out with an ankle injury. This is the second time in a little over a year that Jenkins has used a slur for mentally disabled people, calling a fan the "R" word on Instagram after a preseason game against the Browns last year.
Head coach Pat Shurmur said that players should not be tweeting during practice.
When did Jenkins suffer this injury? The team didn't list him as a player who was injured during Monday's game, like they did with Kevin Zeitler, and they didn't practice on Tuesday.
There is one play that may provide an answer to this mystery. With 13:38 left in the game, the Eagles tossed a swing pass to running back Boston Scott, who was left one-on-one in the open field against Jenkins. Scott made a head fake to the right before making a devastating juke back to the left, leaving Jenkins in the same pose that Spiderman makes when he lands on a building after free-falling through the air.
Jenkins played 98.9% of the defensive snaps on Monday night, so if he did hurt himself during the game he likely just powered through it to finish the game.
Just another day in the world of the 2019 New York Giants.
