Jannik Sinner faces Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon men’s singles final this afternoon.
The Italian, the defending champion at the All England Club, is looking to win his second title on the south London turf, but he comes up against the in-form German, who has reached his first ever final at SW19.
Sinner breezed past seven-time winner Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, coasting past the 24-time Grand Slam champion in straight sets.
Zverev, the world No2, made light work of Britain’s wildcard Arthur Fery in the other last-four encounter, with the French Open champion silencing the raucous home support, who were hoping to cheer the Briton on to a first Wimbledon final for a home favourite since Andy Murray in 2016.
Sinner, 24, suffered a scare in the first round, taken to five sets by Miormir Kecmanovic, but he has been ruthless since, not dropping a set against Nuno Borges, Jenson Brooksby, Shintaro Mochizuki, and Jan-Lennard Struff before he saw off Djokovic.
As for Zverev, he was given a fright by Alexander Blockx in the opening round, losing a second-set tiebreak, while Jiri Lehecka, the 13th seed, made him sweat in a two-day last 16 encounter.
He coasted through American sixth seed Taylor Fritz - who was struggling with a knee injury - in his quarter-final on Court No1, before overcoming a tense first-set tiebreak against Fery to ease into a maiden final at the All England Club.
