Andy Murray looking happy

Jannik Sinner secured a spot in the third round of the Miami Open after defeating Andrea Vavassori with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. The match had been suspended due to rain, with Sinner leading 3-2, and was concluded the following day. Sinner, the third-ranked player and the reigning Australian Open champion, extended his unbeaten record to 12-0 against Italian opponents at the tour level.

Sinner attributed his success in Miami to the court conditions, noting that the lower bounce of the ball suited his game. He expressed feeling mentally liberated to play his best tennis, emphasizing the importance of his mindset on the court.

Former world No. 1 Andy Murray also progressed to the third round by defeating Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-6, 6-3. Murray, a two-time Miami Open champion, ended a nine-match losing streak against top 50 players with this victory. The seasoned player, approaching his 37th birthday, reflected on his extensive career, having played nearly 1000 tour-level matches since turning 18.

The day's matches were delayed by rain for almost three hours, following previous weather disruptions. Among the notable upsets, Thiago Seyboth Wild surprised Taylor Fritz with a 6-3, 6-4 win, while Christopher O'Connell defeated Francis Tiafoe 7-5, 7-6. Tommy Paul was forced to retire due to an ankle injury during his match against Martin Damm Jr.

In women's action, Jessica Pegula advanced to the second round after Zhu Lin retired due to illness while trailing 6-4, 4-1. The tournament continues to showcase thrilling matches and unexpected outcomes as players vie for success in Miami.
