5 things to offer as ‘Bhog’ to Lord Krishna

New Delhi: Janmashtami, which is being celebrated today, is an annual Hindu festival which marks the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Also known as Krishna Janmashtami and Gokulashtami, the auspicious occasion is celebrated by observing a fast, staying awake till midnight for pooja, singing devotional songs and offering traditional sweets to Lord Krishna as ‘bhog’.

Given that Lord Krishna likes makkhan, buttermilk and sweets, here are some sweets that you can offer to Lord Krishna on Janmasthami.

1. Mathura Peda

Janmashtami celebration is incomplete without a delicious serving of the iconic Mathura Peda. This Kesari peda is ideal for the festival and the perfect bhog to offer to the lord on the occasion of Janmasthami.

2. Panjiri Laddoo

This is dessert is among the most popular sweets in Indian households. Panjiri Laddoo is healthy and energy-giving at the same time as they contain ingredients like almonds, fox nuts, cashew nuts, desi ghee, pistachios, raisins, sugar, etc.

3. Maakhan Misri

Lord Krishna's love for white butter is widely known by everyone and hence several households on Janmashtami prepare a simple bhog of maakhan mishri. Basically, it is freshly churned white butter mixed vigorously with sugar.

4. Makhana Paag

This dessert is a staple Bhog that can be prepared in several different ways. One of the easiest ways is to just mix foxnuts with Desi ghee, sugar and desiccated coconut. Though it may seem to be a simple bhog recipe, it tastes absolutely delicious.

5. Charnamrit

Charnamrit is often used by priests as an offering for Gods. It consists of fresh milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar/jaggery, tulsi leaves and makhana.(ANI)
