Janey Godley tackles Nicola Sturgeon facemask controversy as FM admits 'Ah wiz caught bang tae rights'

Janey Godley has poked fun at Nicola Sturgeon after she was pictured speaking to pensioners at a funeral wake without a mask on.

The First Minister was snapped chatting to three elderly woman without a face covering in Edinburgh last Friday.

Sturgeon was attending the funeral of a senior civil servant where she claims she had her mask off "briefly" inside the Stable Bar and Restaurant.

The SNP leader has since apologised for the 'stupid mistake'.

Comedian Janey has bee keeping the nation laughing through the pandemic with her Sturgeon briefing videos, but today she had a slightly different take on them.

Speaking as Sturgeon, she said: "Well there ah wiz...Caught bang tae rights!

"And am sorry but you know I did actually have my mask off at a purvey a funeral.  And for those people who don't know what the word purvey means, in Scotland it means the word buffet. And you guys aw know wit am like for a small pyramid of cold sausage rolls.

"A f*****g tanned the sausage rolls, a hid three slice of thinly sliced ham, a hud a slice of quiche and a wee polystyrene plate of trifle.

"And I'm just glad the person taking the picture didn't catch me stuffing four sausage rolls in each pocket because I love a wee bit of remanded sausage roll, I ate it in the car on the way hame.

"I also had a bit a quiche doon ma bra but that's another story... aye I'm sorry, people shouldny dae that ataw!"

The  SNP leader has has since said sorry for the "stupid mistake" for which she is reportedly "kicking herself".

In a statement, Sturgeon said: "Last Friday, while attending a funeral wake, I had my mask off briefly. This was a stupid mistake and I’m really sorry.

“I talk every day about the importance of masks, so I’m not going to offer any exc­uses. I was in the wrong, I’m kicking myself and I’m sorry.”

Punters must cover their faces in hospitality settings unless seated at a table.

Breaches of the covid rules are punishable by a fixed penalty notice of £60, which is reduced to £30 if paid within 28 days. Penalties double for repeat offences, up to £960.

The law states: “A person who commits an offence under this regulation is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum.”
