Janey Godley set to release book based on Nicola Sturgeon voice over sketches

During lockdown, Scots comedian Janey Godley provided the country with much needed light relief with her hilarious versions of the First Minister 's daily Covid speeches, so much so that she has now compiled them into a book.

New hardback 'Frank Get The Door!' follows the journey of Scotland and the UK throughout lockdown, from the first lockdown announcement to Dominic Cummings in Durham to household bubbles and the Track and Trace app, as well as many others.

Nicola Sturgeon herself has praised the comedian for getting the message across through humour, joking that perhaps Janey sometimes does guess what she’s really thinking.

Speaking about the clips  previously, Sturgeon said: “Janey Godley is a brilliant comedian in my view, and her voice overs are very, very funny.

“They are very rude in terms of the language that's used so sometimes I don't feel I can retweet them but they are very, very funny.”

Janey said for her clips she never reads from prepared scripts, preferring the ‘live’ approach.

She said: "I love doing the voiceovers! I use my iPhone and technology to just hammer out a bit of fun on a daily basis."

Janey added: "Humour is sometimes the only way to get through the tough times, and giving the FM a big Glasgow voice makes some people laugh and actually gets the message across."

Accompanied by illustrations by Christina Connelly, Frank, Get The Door! is a comical, light-hearted record of this unprecedented time in world history and will be released on October 19.

Last month, the comedian was also recognised for her First Minister videos as she scooped the award for Best Online Content at the Scottish Comedy Awards.

As well as making the nation laugh, Janey started a fundraising campaign by donating all profits from her 'Frank, get the door!’  merch to charity and revealed that the sales had raised a whopping £19,640.41
