Janey Godley's merchandise sales raise over £19k for Scottish kids charity

Scots comedian Janey Godley has thanked her fans for buying her merchandise and raising almost £20,000 for the STV Children's Appeal.

Janey Godley is best known for providing the country with light-hearted relief with her sweary takes on the First Minister 's daily speeches on coronavirus in Scotland.

Many fans were in fits of laughter when she did a voice over on one of Nicola Sturgeon's speeches and said '  Get back on with the pumpin.'

Over on her website, Janey was selling merch based round one of her character catchphrases, which she shouts at the end of every speech as Sturgeon leaves the scene. She said: “‘Frank, get the door!’ has become an iconic phrase. People have posters of it in their windows.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has even admitted to being a bit of a fan of Janey herself in the past.

Speaking about the clips  previously, Sturgeon said: “Janey Godley is a brilliant comedian in my view, and her voice overs are very, very funny.

“They are very rude in terms of the language that's used so sometimes I don't feel I can retweet them but they are very, very funny.”

Janey started the fundraising campaign by donating all profits from the merch to charity and yesterday, she posted that the sales had raised a whopping £19,640.41.

Scott Maxwell, STV Children’s Appeal Fundraising Manager, said: “Fundraisers across the country have come up with extremely unique ways of raising money for the STV Children’s Appeal this year, and none more so than Janey, whose now-iconic ‘Frank, get the door’ skits have provided some much-needed light relief during this challenging period.

“We’re so grateful to Janey and all of our fundraisers who have gone above and beyond to help vulnerable children across Scotland at a crucial time, when our support is needed more than ever.”

And her fans praised her online for her efforts.

One said: "That’s brill the merch was really nice we loved ours."

While another wrote: "How fantastic, well done Janey."

And another penned: "Wow! That’s an amazing amount!"
