Janey Godley opens up on mum's 'murder' and how she feels 'strangely blessed' body was found soon after disappearance

Scots comedian Janey Godley has opened up about the death of her mother after she said watching documentaries made her feel 'strangely blessed'.

Janey's mother Annie was found dead in the Clyde during the 1980s but the comi c claims her violent partner Peter Greenshields was to blame for her mother's death.

But while watching a documentary about women who have been missing for years, Janey felt she wanted to speak out about her mum's death and said she is 'blessed' she didn't have to wait years.

She said: "Watching documentaries about women who went missing and years later their body is found, makes me feel strangely blessed that my mums body was found in River Clyde four days after she went missing, even though the guy that killed her escaped justice, I didn’t have to wait years.

"Some women were never found and although I still miss Annie (my mum) I am at peace that we never spent decades wondering where she is, that is such a trauma for families."

And many of Janey's followers sent her kind messages after she opened up.

One said: "So sorry. Feels utterly wrong to "like" this, but I'm sure your mum would be proud of her funny, strong daughter."

While another wrote: "What a horrendous situation.

"Very tiny silver lining you have mentioned there.

"I’m sorry for the hurt and pain you and your family have experienced. I’m sending all my love and positive thoughts to you all."

And another said: "I can’t imagine anything worse and I’m amazed at your ability to keep it in your heart whilst still being one of the wittiest women I know. Respect, love and gentle arms around you, lovely."

Janey has previously spoken about her mum's tragic death in one of her podcast episodes.

Talking about the man she thinks killed her mum Janey said: "Peter had been put in prison before he met my mum for beating up women but my mum always told me it wasn't true.

"She told me he'd killed a swan and cooked it once, mum also told me to never argue back with Peter.

"One night I found my mum lying on Peter's living room floor, he was about to attack her with an axe.

"One Friday night my mum went missing and she's been with Peter.

"On the Monday morning her body was found in the River Clyde.

"Police said there was no evidence to suggest Peter had done it."
