Janette Manrara quits Strictly Come Dancing after eight years

Janette Manrara has confirmed she won't be returning to Strictly Come Dancing after eight years on the BBC One competition.

The professional dancer announced the shock news and detailed her new job during an interview on The One Show with Welsh presenter Alex Jones and Ronan Keating.

Janette isn't going far, however, as she's confirmed she will be replacing Zoe Ball on It Takes Two. She will be hosting the show alongside Rylan Clarke-Neal later this year.

The 37-year-old told The One Show hosts that leaving the series as a "competitor" was the the "hardest part of accepting the honour" but was excited about her new role.

"One of my favourite parts of doing Strictly was always to sit down on that couch and just chat away, it's the most fun," she said. "I remember meeting Zoe, gosh that was eight years ago now when I did the first It Takes Two sit-down.

"And thinking, 'This is the coolest job ever. You get to sit down, talk about dancing, make people feel good and celebrate their successes on the show'.

"I did say, 'One day I would love to do that', and it's here, here we are!"

Janette, who came runner up with her partner HRVY last year, also posted an emotional tribute to Strictly on her Instagram account.

Thanking the whole team behind the show, Janette said: "The hardest part will be saying goodbye to my fellow professional dancers and the famous Strictly dance floor!

"The professionals are the superheroes of the show and I will always champion them! I love you all so so much! May you continue inspiring and bringing so much joy to the nation as always!"

Zoe confirmed her departure from It Takes Two after 10 years as host last month, but her replacement hadn't been confirmed until now.

The One Show continues weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
