Singer Janet Jackson, artist Tracey Emin and TV presenter Maya Jama were among the attendees at the inaugural British Museum Ball.
Saturday’s London event was raising funds for the museum, with a dress theme of pink for its first year. Guests arrived to a drinks reception and speeches in the Great Court, before taking their seats for dinner at tables set among the museum’s collection.
Jackson, 59, sister of the late Michael Jackson, wore a long red dress, while 31-year-old Love Island presenter Jama wore a floral outfit, and My Bed artist Emin, 62, wore a long black dress.
Also attending was 69-year-old model Jerry Hall, who wore a black dress, long white necklace and a pink jacket, actress Kristin Scott Thomas, 65, who wore a gold and black outfit with red detailing, and actor James Norton, who wore a white shirt, black suit and pink tie.
Naomi Campbell, 55, who is on the ball committee, wore a long dress in the colours of the Union flag, which trailed behind her.
Politicians were also in attendance, including mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan, with his wife Saadiya Khan, and former prime minister Rishi Sunak, who was with his wife Akshata Murty.
Other attendees included artist Grayson Perry and his wife Philippa Perry, French actress Pom Klementieff, who wore a pink and white outfit, broadcaster Anita Rani, who wore a long light pink dress, and actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who wore a blue and black suit with a white shirt and black tie.
Attendees will take part in a silent auction throughout the evening, and take in music performances by Grammy-nominated sitarist Anoushka Shankar and Grammy-winning conductor and composer Jules Buckley, who is to be joined by special guests throughout the night.
The pink theme was inspired by the “colours and light” of India, with the ball being presented in conjunction with the British Museum’s Ancient India: Living Traditions exhibition.
