Janet Devlin shares photo and message as she celebrates two years sobriety

Northern Irish singer-songwriter Janet Devlin has shared a new photo and message as she celebrates being two years sober on New Year's Day.

The 25-year-old, who shot to fame at the age of 16 on series eight of the X-Factor, has talked candidly in the past about her alcoholism, addressing it prominently last year through her music, writings and YouTube videos.

In a message shared today on Twitter, the Tyrone singer wrote: "Two years sober (again lol) today! thank you guys so much for sticking with me through this weird and wonderful journey! This Gal is drink and drug free for another day and I honestly can’t express the blessings I’ve been given because of it!"

The anniversary comes as the singer continues to speak out about her addiction, talking honestly about her relationship with alcohol, relapses, and what her experiences have taught her.

The singer released her latest album, Confessional, last year, as well as an accompanying book, My Confessional.

As she released her new single 'Better Now' in November, Janet talked extensively about her struggles.

Speaking on her YouTube channel in November, the Gortin singer said: “Better Now is also the last chapter in my book but of course I'm not better now, that's the joke.

“There's no such thing as a better alcoholic. I'm better than I was, but I have to work hard at that. What might be a sad or bad day for me could be someone else's mental breakdown.

“As someone who has relapsed before, I can't guarantee I'll be sober for the rest of my life but God willing, I will. Life isn't all plain sailing. It doesn't work that way.

“I am better in that I don't lie on my floor crying at 3am any more. I'm not acting out on those self destructive behaviours.

“But I know that stuff will happen. I might have mini breakdowns but I have the tools to cope better now.”
