Janelle Monae might be cool but she still loves Slack

Janelle Monae might be a groundbreaking musician whose work challenges perceptions of politics, sexuality and femininity. But she also really loves Slack. In fact, she might even like the unsexy office messaging service more than you.

In a recent cover story with Fast Company, Monae revealed that Slack (not an endless well of creativity) is one of her secret weapons.

At Wondaland, the artist community she created, Monae said they all use the same service 9-5ers love and sometimes hate.

When FC asked Monae how she gets everything done (this year she's had four movies in the works and released the deeply personal concept album “Dirty Computer” to critical acclaim), her response was simply “SLACK!”

“Email used to stress me out," she told the magazine, "Now I can organize every conversation, and I go into the channel when I need to—I don’t check it every hour. Like, when I get up the first thing I do is not look at my phone,” she told the magazine.

Perhaps you can request to join the Wondaland channel now, using a particularly potent "Pynk" gif.

For absolute productivity, Monae also recommended early morning cardio, oatmeal, and an app that limits social media use, which all sound helpful too.

But she reserves her greatest enthusiasm for Slack. Proving all of us, even platinum-selling popstars, have an inner Michael Scott.
