Janelle Monae Glastonbury 2019: American singer confirmed as part of festival line-up

Janelle Monáe has been revealed as the third act on the line-up for Glastonbury 2019.

Monáe, who released her acclaimed third full-length album Dirty Computer last April, joins Stormzy and Kylie Minogue as the confirmed acts at this year's Worthy Farm festival.

The news was announced on BBC 6 Music on Monday morning by Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis, who confirmed Monáe will perform on the West Holts stage.

Eavis also gave further details of new developments on the Glastonbury site, which will host the festival for the first time since 2017 this summer.

Regular Glastonbury stage Arcadia, known for its iconic spider design, will feature a new structure for 2019, while Block 9 is set to launch a new installation. There will also be "something new, near where the Teepees were", Eavis said.

She added that, in terms of booking artists for the festival line-up, "we're about 90 per cent of the way there."

"We're really lucky to be able to get the bands we've got," she added.

"As you know we don't pay the same amounts as others, so we're kind of reliant on good feeling."

Monáe will follow up her Glastonbury performance with a huge show at the SSE Arena in Wembley in July. Last year, she blew audiences away with a five-star performance at the Roundhouse. Read our full review of that superb show here.
